2-2-5-5
Two nights each, then five nights each, on a fourteen day cycle. Each parent keeps the same two weekdays every single week.
Parent A: 7 nights · Parent B: 7 nights · repeats every 14 days · 4 handoffs per fortnight.
What it is like
This is the pattern for families who want an even split and also want their weekdays to stay put. One parent always has Monday and Tuesday. The other always has Wednesday and Thursday. Weekends alternate.
Four handoffs per fortnight, so noticeably calmer than 2-2-3, with blocks short enough that nobody disappears for a week.
Suits
Parents with fixed work patterns, since your days never move. Kids who take comfort in knowing that Wednesday is always Wednesday. Families who found 2-2-3 too busy and week on week off too long.
Harder if
Your work schedule is unpredictable. The fixed weekdays are the benefit and also the constraint, and if your shifts move around, this pattern fights you.
The mistake people make
Treating it as 2-2-3 with longer blocks. It is not. The fixed weekdays are the entire reason to choose it, so if they do not matter to you, one of the other even splits will probably suit you better.
Try it with your own dates
Runs entirely in your browser, generated from the same logic as the app. No account, no data sent anywhere.
Putting it on a calendar
Once you have picked something, the app will build it. Choose the pattern, set the start date, and it writes the whole schedule into a shared calendar both houses can see. Change it later and it rebuilds without you redoing the year by hand.
One calendar is free, which is all this needs.
